No words can describe the amazing time my fiancé and I had in one of the most romantic places on earth: SANTORINI.
This Greek Island has been at the top my bucket list for as long as I can remember, and I can’t even describe the excitement I had for weeks and weeks as soon my fiancé told me he was taking me there for a romantic getaway to treat me for my birthday and to celebrate a surprise early honeymoon! He had to win the prize for the best fiancé ever.
This treasure island just has it all: an outstanding view on the caldera, the most stunning sunsets, little lovely villages, great local taverns where you can taste homemade greek foods (moussaka!!), luxury boutique hotels with stunning infinity pools and, of course, welcoming and charming people. I assure you, you’ll want to buy a little house with the blue windows the moment you touch the grounds.
I just wished we stayed longer. 5 days are for sure enough, but at the end of your trip I’m sure they will have to drag you to the plane. Luckily it’s just a few hours away and we we’ll go back for sure.
SANTORINI is definitely one of the most gorgeous places I’ve seen in my life.

I’m quite addicted to travelling, having visited almost 30 countries and lived in a few of them, but Santorini, seriously, is now right at the top of my favourite places in the world and it will make the perfect honeymoon destination or a dreamy getaway with your other half.
This exceptional trip was made it even more heavenly as soon as we arrived at our hotel in Oia, the Kirini Suites & Spa. We were welcomed with refreshing drinks by the hotel manager, who surprised us with an upgrade to their superior suite. How magic is that?!
So, as a gift, she sent us for the first night in the honeymoon suite of their partner hotel, the Chromata Hotel in Imerovigli and for the following nights we were upgraded at the Kirini. The staff on both hotels were the nicest and most attentive people you can hope for. The view is out of this world, just unbelievable and so were the rooms and the hotels’ infinity pools! I just have a thing for infinity pools, what I can I do.
At the Chromata Hotel we stayed at the honeymoon suite num.11, apparently their biggest suite! I have to believe that as we had two jacuzzis in the room and the suite was so big that we couldn’t even hear each other from the two sides! :D With this room you can also enjoy breakfast on your private terrace. Breakfast just makes my day.
After our first and only night at the Chromata Hotel, where we thought it couldn’t get any better than that, we were so thrilled to finally stay at our Kirini Hotel Suites & Spa. The hotel itself is so peculiar and you feel to be inside a cave, with so many floors and turns and steps that it feels like a labyrinth, seriously. After 5 minutes of walk and god knows how many steps, we reached our room (the hotel is huge!). The view from Oia was even more incredible. Even in the shower we had a window facing the caldera, how is that possible?!
And, surprise surprise, we were upgraded to this suite which also came with a private terrace with our own hot outdoor jacuzzi.
Needlessly to say, this was one of the most luxurious experience of my life and I will remember this birthday and early honeymoon for a very long time!!!
For the curious travellers, this was our itinerary:
DAY 1 – Flight from London to Santorini. We picked up the car at the airport and we drove to Oia. We settled at our Chromata Hotel in Imerovigli and we went for a fish dinner right by the sea at ‘Frantzesco’ in Perissa.
DAY 2 – We visited Oia, we settled at our Kirini Suites & Spa Hotel, we had dinner with gyros in Fira.
DAY 3 – We visited the village of Pyrgos, Akrotiri, we drove around the southern part of the island before heading back to Oia for sunset. We had a cretan dinner at Raki, a local tavern in Megalochori.
DAY 4 – We wondered around Oia then we head to Santo Wines for sunset. Finally we spent our last greek dinner in another local tavern in Megalochori called Mousiko Kouti.
DAY 5 – Flight from Santorini to London.
To make it even more heavenly with your other half, here you are my recommendations :
WHERE TO STAY?
Kirini Hotel Spa & Suites in Oia, Santorini
Chromata Hotel in Imerovigli, Santorini
WHERE TO GO?
Oia, Imerovigli, Pyrgos, Fira. All these villages are just too pretty to be true.
WHAT TO DO?
Rent a car and drive around the island following your instincts. Stop in locals bakeries and traditional taverns to taste the real greek food. Obviously, find a good spot to enjoy the Greek stunning sunset.
The best place is obviously Oia, however it is so packed with tourists and photographers that you could be disappointed. But when I say packed, I mean seriously packed, you can’t move, you will fight for the best seat, you have to go hours in advance hoping to find somewhere to stay. It’s definitely nice but probably not worth it if you have to stand for hours.
A nice and private area we found later on was at Santo Wines, where you have a can enjoy the romantic view, while sipping local wines.
WHERE TO EAT?
Find authentic and typical Greek taverns is sometime tough, as the majority of the places are very very touristic. Even with a half greek boyfriend was not that easy, however, we weren’t disappointed and on our last night, by walking in the little village of Megalochori we just stumbled upon Mousiko Kouti, which means the music box! This little special tavern seemed to came out from a painting, with its front little garden presented with colourful tables, windows and flowers. The lady who welcomed us was soo sweet that we couldn’t resist and we made a reservation for our last evening. This is a very romantic spot to end your stay in Santorini, full of locals and homemade greek food: the unmissable moussaka, the greek salad and some stew.
